Obtain an Answer in the First Trimester of Pregnancy

For the client who does not want to wait nine months, paternity can now be safely established before the baby is born with Orchid PRO-DNA’s new non-invasive prenatal paternity testing service. Performed on a blood sample, this test poses no risk to the mother or the baby.

How does it work?

The test is based on state-of-the-art technology that analyzes cell-free DNA from the fetus which is present in the mother’s blood. The genetic profile of the fetus is then compared to the alleged father’s genetic profile. Paternity will be confirmed with a probability of over 99.9%. If the alleged father is not the biological father, the probability of paternity will be 0%.

When can the test be performed?

The test can be performed any time starting in the 9th week of pregnancy.

How does this test compare to current prenatal paternity tests?

Current prenatal paternity tests require invasive procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling (CVS) to obtain DNA from the fetus. These procedures have an associated risk of pregnancy complications or miscarriage.

How to get tested

Contact our Customer Care department to make an appointment for the blood draw. The test requires a blood sample from the pregnant mother and a saliva sample from the alleged father(s), as well as appropriate documentation to ensure chain of custody. We offer home collection services for our clients’ convenience. A trained professional will go to the client’s home to perform the sample collection and will then ship the samples and documents to our laboratory.
