Genetic identification can be useful in many situations. Advances in DNA testing technology make it possible to match biological evidence to a given individual with certainty or, conversely, to exclude persons of interest. In cases involving missing persons, the possibility of determining their genetic identity constitutes an invaluable asset in the task of trying to locate them or to establish a biological link with different types of evidence. We also offer tests for the identification of biological fluids (blood, semen, and saliva).
DNA testing can be useful for resolving legal disputes concerning professional liability and estate issues. In terms of family inheritances, genetic identification may be used to refute any fraudulent claims filed by third parties.
Lastly, even if the motive is pure curiosity, our laboratory will provide a genetic identity report including your DNA profile and its frequency according to your ethnic origins. Please note that our genetic identification service cannot be used as a substitute for family relationship testing or to determine family ancestors.
Our genetic identification service is performed according to the strict standards of the CODIS identification system used in forensic science laboratories. Orchid PRO-DNA establishes your genetic profile using 16 genetic markers, including a sex determinant.
Private Option (Home Test)
The test is performed using samples collected at home. Our laboratory will send you a sampling kit containing all the necessary material for the collection of the samples as well as instructions and consent forms.
Legal Option
If you need the results of the DNA test to be used in a legal context, Orchid PRO-DNA offers a service that ensures the admissibility of the test results in court. Simply contact us to make an appointment in one of our collection centres near you. For the results to be legally admissible, the participant must go to a collection centre, present official identification (must be government-issued, preferably with photo ID, ex. driver’s licence, medical card, etc.) and provide a photograph, after which the sample will follow a strict chain of custody.
STR Technology
STRs are short tandem repeats found in nuclear DNA which are very variable from one individual to another. The analysis of several STRs leads to a true genetic fingerprint that is unique to each individual (except for identical twins). STR analysis is the standard method used for determining genetic profiles. This technology is very precise and requires very small amounts of DNA.
Results
Results of the test are obtained within 5 work days following the receipt of the samples at our laboratory. We also offer an accelerated service by which results may be obtained within 3 work days. Results are transmitted by mail or through our web portal (e-mail notice) to the eligible persons specified on the consent forms.
Cost
The Genetic Identification Service includes a sampling kit, easy-to-follow instructions, a consent form, and DNA analysis for one (1) participant.

Sample
The DNA test is performed on a buccal swab sample (saliva). Since every cell of our body contains the same DNA, it is possible to extract each participant’s DNA from collected saliva cells and perform the requested genetic analysis. This simple, painless type of collection procedure yields results that are as reliable as blood sampling results. Moreover, it can be performed as easily on a newborn or child as on an adult.
